STEWART REID MEMORIAL PARK

Recently the Trustees of the Park negotiated a rental agreement with the Ministry of Education for the School's use of the Park. The rental enables the School, which has very limited playground area, to use the Park during school hours. The funds for this Annual rental do not come from allocated BOT funds but are provided by the Ministry of Education. The Park currently receives a maintenance grant from the Waipa Regional Council for purposes of mowing, spraying, fertilising and general maintenance. At the end of the recent drought the Park turf was in very poor condition and needed sowing and fertiliser application. Hopefully we will see the benefit in the coming months. The revenue from the lease to the Ministry will enable annual maintenance of the now 60 year old trees surrounding the Park.

The Stewart Reid Memorial Park was gifted to the Ngahinapouri and Tuhikaramea Districts by Mr & Mrs Neil Reid in March 1946 in memory of their son, Pilot Officer Stewart Reid, who lost his life during World War II. Each of the magnificent trees surrounding the park acknowledges the sacrifices made by each serviceman from this District who went to war.
